This survey study was aimed to make a information about the acute poisoning in Seoul National University Hospital emergency room. The survey format was designed to collect the available informations pertaining to poisoning from patient´s charts during about 5 years, from March 1983 to December 1987. Total poisoning patients were 1063. On analysis annual percentage of the poisoning patients increase gradually. Most poisoning patients were adults, especially in the age of 200´s were 40％ of total case. It showed seriousness of acute poisonings in this age. On the motive of poisoning, acute poisonings by accident 48.5％, suicidal attempts 38.9％ and the others 12.6％. On sex analysis, females occupied 58％, especially females poisohing by suicidal attempt was more than of male´s. On the route of poisoing by ingestion 67.1％ the others was poisoing by CO gas. Regarding poisoning substances, agricultural agents occupied 26.4％, CO poisoning 23.8％ and medicines 22.0％ of total cases showing tendency of poisonig by living environment. By these survey study, we conclude, there are many acute poisonings by our own social and environmental factors. We need social project against the all suicidal attempts and complete management for the poisoning substances in order to prevent the poisoning.
